UN-CECAR Downscaling Training in Sri Lanka

International Students Complete “Climate Change Downscaling Approaches and Applications (CCDAA)” Training Course in Sri Lanka UNU-IAS organized an intensive training course on Climate Change Downscaling Approaches and Applications, under the framework of UN-CECAR, which was held at Sri Lankan Institute of Information and Technology in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 30 March to 10 April 2015. Some 27 students from 10 countries, with various backgrounds, participated in the course, with a third of participants coming from the government sector.

WCDRR OFFICIAL SIDE EVENT: Integrated Water Cycle Management for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainability

UNU-IAS and UNESCO-IHE are co-organizing an official side event at World Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in Sendai, Japan on 15th March. The session explores sustainable approaches of the combined operation of centralized and decentralized approaches addressing three dimensions of sustainability and water cycle stability. It analyses the importance of community participation and how this participation would vary depending on awareness, presentation and direct benefits to the immediate community.



Workshop on GIS for Higher Education

The United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) and Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) jointly organize a workshop on “Geographical Information System (GIS) for Higher Education” on 13th November, 2014 at the United Nations University Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.


Oliver Williams, C.S.C. specializes in the areas of business ethics, corporate governance, and Catholic social teaching. Williams is the editor or author of 15 books as well as numerous articles on business ethics in journals. He is the Director of the Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Religious Values in Business in the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame. A former Naval Officer, Williams earned his doctorate from Vanderbilt University and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Notre Dame. He is a Catholic priest in the Congregation of Holy Cross.
